Oct. 9

We spent the day in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We made the loop through Cade's Cove stopping to see nearly every home site.
We missed the last one. We had just stopped to take a couple of pictures of a small bear that was foraging for grubs in a log right next to the road. We had the sunrider pulled open in the Jeep so I stood on the seat to take the pictures. Because we weren't supposed to be stopping and holding up traffic behind us, we ended up zipping past our last stop. You'll have to take my word that we saw a bear and that I got a couple of pictures of him because I took them on my good camera. Windows 10 doesn't like my good camera. It doesn't recognize that there are any pictures on it to download. I tried a couple of fixes for this before we left home, but with no luck. While I'm complaining about technology, my computer won't connect to the wi-fi when I'm trying to use my phone for a wi-fi hot spot. It sees it and is a strong connection, it just won't connect so that I can use it. So when I don't have a wi-fi connection at a campsite, I won't be able to post for that day.

Anyway, back to the park.  Cades's Cove has several stops with cabins and outbuildings dating back to 1818. It is hard to imagine what life would have been like for the settlers back then. As I'm sitting here letting the automatic washers and dryers get our clothes clean, I can be especially thankful for the conveniences that we have now.

After making the loop, we left the park on a one-way "unimproved" road. It was gravel with just a few bumps and a thoroughly fun ride.

Here are some pictures of our day. We are a bit early for the peak colors, but it is still beautiful here. Most of you know that I love trees (I'm even wearing my "I Like Trees" t-shirt today) and I am just amazed by the size and variety of trees here.
