Beautiful day! Yesterday was pretty windy and made for hard driving for David. Today was much better although it got a little breezy this afternoon.
We've stayed completely off the interstate so far. That makes for slower driving, but much more interesting scenery!
It was pretty obvious that we weren't on the flat plains of eastern Colorado any more.
We took the Native Stone Scenic Byway west and south of Topeka. There were many buildings and stone walls built with the native limestone. Some of the walls have been restored and others not. It was a fun little side trip.We stopped at an antique store in Alma. The store itself is a huge limestone building and I found two things that I needed. HONEST, I needed them. I know what I'm going to to with both of them!
I love these little gas stations. We saw four or five of them today. This one was turned into a bed and breakfast. I would have loved to see inside!
We're thinking about putting a barn quilt on the old barn at home. I'm planning to take pictures of ones we see for inspiration.
We stopped in Dover, KS (it's on that Native Stone Scenic Byway) for lunch and some pie at the Sommerset Hall Restaurant. It's in a really cool old building.
Their coconut cream pie was picked best coconut cream pie in America in 2008 by Good Morning America. We each had a piece. Not sure it's the best in America, but it was very good. David had a second piece with his supper tonight and I'm getting ready to try out their cherry pie. We'd better be doing some walking on this trip or we won't be able to waddle by the time we get home!
