Oct. 29-The White House-updated

Early, EARLY this morning we were all up and around, drove to the Metro, and headed into DC to be able to get to our appointed tour of the White House by 8:45. Everything worked well with time to spare. It was a beautiful, clear morning after the rain yesterday. The White House tour went quicker than we had expected. We went back to the Museum of American History and toured half of the lower level. It had displays about food, Julia Child's kitchen, and transportation displays. There was still a wing to visit, but we were wanting to get to the Holocaust Museum and then back to Baltimore earlier than we had the other two day of visiting DC. The Holocaust Museum is, of course, very sobering and sad, but a powerful reminder of just how cruel humans can be to other humans. I know I forget just how privileged we are here in the United States.

Early ride in to DC on the Metro

We were so concerned about getting to DC in time for our White House tour that we got there an hour early and had time for Starbucks!

One of my brothers is obviously very funny. Or was it Marlyn or Paula?

The mums outside the White House were beautiful!

Through security and on the tour.

As you would imagine, the wood work was amazing!

I really liked this candle holder.

View from one of the windows.

We were fascinated with the Secret Service vehicles and agents that we saw in different places around DC. These were outside the White House.

Check out those lug nuts!

The very solemn Holocaust Museum. In my opinion, it is a place everyone should visit.

Some spots of color taken through the windows.

Tom and Tena's lovely home. They are the definition of hospitality!

Aunt Colene and Aunt Marva having a little swing before heading out for crabs.

At the crab resturant.

Picking crabs is serious business. The reward is oh so sweet! They were delicious!

Tom is telling another story!

David and Tena having a thumb war.

Tena won.
