We found the metropolis of Aldrich, MO today. Actually what we found was mostly the signs as there wasn't much of a town at all. The sign said that the population was 75, but there weren't even enough houses to hold that many. There was an Aldrich Christian Church and a tiny post office. Don't know if any of my ancestors actually had anything to do with this town or not, but is was worth a few extra miles to come by. The road into and through it was beautiful.
From Aldrich we went to Nathaniel Boone's homestead. He was Daniel Boone's son and moved to this part of the country in the 1830's. It was an interesting tour and fun to hear a little history about him and his family. I have more pictures but don't have them downloaded, yet. Will add them later. This is a picture of the back of their cabin. They were whitewashing it today which was interesting to see.
From there we made it on to Thayer and our friends, the Russell's. They and their friends had prepared a feast of ribs, cheesy potatoes, cole slaw, spinach salad, baked beans, carrot cake and woofums. Christy's mom and other friends/family came over. We have heard stories about them through the years, so we felt that we knew them just a bit from the start. It was great putting faces to the names and stories and it was a wonderful evening with lots of laughter.
Arkansas beat Tennessee so Dawson and Olivia were happy and it has been fun to meet the dogs that we've heard about through the years.
