Oct. 1 And we're off! We both seemed to get to a stopping point on
all our planning, packing, and last minute to-do-lists this morning so we got
on the road about 11am. We left behind our multi-generational family of turkeys
in the back yard and migrating monarchs on the flowers.
We stopped about 45 minutes down the road for lunch, bumping
into several friends also eating lunch at the little out of the way restaurant.
Back on the road about a mile I realized that I didn't have my phone so we had
to turn around to retrieve it. David is giving me a bit of grief about having
to backtrack already, but hopefully this is not a sign of things to come.
We're taking the back roads and decided to stop at Glen
Elder State Park outside of Cawker City, KS. You may know Cawker City as the
home of the world's largest ball of sisal twine. The ball was started in 1953
and the town now has a Twine Festival every year where the towns people get to
add to the ball. Some folks just get to have all the fun...
